'I could smell smoke in my house': Resident yells at neighbor to move his grill during a party, later apologizes for his unneighborly behavior

We all do and say things when we're mad that we end up regretting…

It's so easy to let our anger take the wheel and lead us to some actions we are not proud of. It's hard to see or think clearly when something is making our lives uncomfortable or inconvenient, especially when that something was caused by other people. We get mad when someone holds up the line, or when a party down the street wakes up the kids. The question is: are we able to control the anger, or do we let it take over and lead us down unwanted paths?

Everyone would love to claim that they are the masters of their own emotions, that they don't lose rationality and let anger take control, but we all fall victim to those feelings every once in a while. It's only human. We get mad at strangers, friends, and even family members, and we say or do things we later regret. That happens, and we learn to make peace with it, but it is also important to try to make peace with people we might have offended in the process. There's nothing wrong with recognizing you crossed the line and apologizing for doing so.

The resident in the story below realized he might have reacted too strongly to an honest mistake, so he tried to make things right. It all started when he woke up in the morning to a smell of smoke in his house and realized it was coming from the neighboring backyard. When he saw his neighbor out there cooking on his grill, he got mad and demanded that the neighbor move the grill further away. The neighbor quietly complied, but the resident didn't feel much better afterwards.

As the day went by, the resident felt like his reaction to the grill was too strong, as the last thing he wanted was to be perceived as an entitled or mean neighbor who no one wants to talk to.
